Welcome to the School of Media and Communication. We are one of the largest and most comprehensive schools of communications in the nation — but size is not all that distinguishes us.
SMC prepares students for leadership careers in media and communication. Graduates leave Temple with the same solid foundation that has launched earlier alumni into prominence in advertising and public relations, journalism and television.
This happens because our students hone their skills while developing their academic understanding of the importance of the role of communications in public life. Knowing that tomorrow’s communications leaders will be expected to work across media, we introduce our students to the array of communications disciplines before they focus on a specific area of study. In this way, students develop a theoretical understanding of communications and culture, as well as the creative and technical skills necessary to launch successful careers. The talent of our students is recognized as they continue to earn prestigious internships, garner national and international awards, and win major scholarships.
Our students also learn by doing. Not only do our classrooms provide hands-on training using industry standard software and equipment, but we also offer real-world internships and practice in the nation’s fourth largest media market and beyond. Employers know that our graduates enter the workforce ready to contribute from their first day on the job.
None of this would be possible without our talented faculty. Many of these highly regarded professionals are also successful practitioners in the fields in which they teach. Just as significantly, they take pride in guiding students through a process of exploration and discovery.
As you can imagine, our schedules are full. Top-notch lectures and the annual Lew Klein awards ceremony, which brings successful alumni back to campus, are among the many events that exemplify the vibrancy of our campus.
