Welcome from Dean David Boardman
Welcome to the Temple University School of Media and Communication. With our superb faculty, diverse student body and location in the nation’s fourth-largest media market, we are one of the most exciting places in the world to study journalism, advertising, broadcasting, strategic communication, media production and the role of communication in public life.
Enter the atrium at Annenberg Hall, and the energy is palpable as students mix with professors, professionals, alumni and each other. The variety and vitality of our SMC community are core strengths of which we are enormously proud. Our urban campus and our school look like 21st Century America, and our students graduate with the confidence to communicate effectively across cultures.
Our faculty represent an array of experience and expertise, from world-renowned scholars to Pulitzer Prize-winning practitioners. All are dedicated to teaching and to our school being a powerful force for innovation, diversity and social justice. We foster in our students the courage of curiosity – the willingness to begin with tough questions and to challenge themselves and each other in pursuing truth.
Our students learn by doing. Our classrooms provide hands-on training using industry-standard technology. We have our own television station, our own local-news website and even our own music-recording label. We help our students secure internships in the Mid-Atlantic region and across the country.
We even offer remarkable overseas opportunities through our Study Away program, with programs in London, Dublin, Barcelona, Hong Kong and South Africa.
Our home city of Philadelphia is the place where the First Amendment became the law of the land. At Temple’s School of Media and Communication, we are dedicated to keeping the patriot founders’ dream alive in a world far more challenging – and far more exciting – than they could have imagined.
Come join us.
