Steps to register for an internship or proof of registration:
There are several steps to registering for an internship:
1) I will need to check your pre-reqs. You must have all seven COMM/CMST foundation/core classes done by the time that the internship begins The COMM core classes are listed on our homepage, URL below, under Curricular check lists. These must be completed with a C or above. There are no exceptions to that rule.
2) If you have 60 credits and fulfilled all of the pre-reqs with a C or better, then you are able to take this class for credit. You can stop in during my office hours after the term begins Wed for me to check your classes and create a letter for you
if an eligibility letter is required. That letter, however, does not register you.
3) To register, you will need to have all of the internship manual on hand and have pp 8-9 of the manual completed. The link to the manual is below on our homepage under internships. You must have a letter from your internship supervisor noting all of the information on page 10 of the manual. Without that letter and information, it is not possible to register.
4) You will need to stop by my office during by the end of the first two days of the summer term or first two weeks of the Fall/Spring term to register. Please arrange to be there during that time.
I hope that this information is helpful.
best,
Scott Gratson
Director
Overview
We are glad that you are considering undertaking an internship with the Communication Studies Program. Our internship program has included a number of media centers such as radio and television stations, major businesses, community services, international organizations and even an affiliate of the United States Department of Defense!
Although the internship program is not required for graduation in the major, it is highly recommended. Survey after survey of corporate leaders note the importance of having an internship. Students look back at their internship as a vital component of their undergraduate experience.
The ability to function within an organization and to obtain hands-on experience are some of the most intriguing aspects of internships. Additionally, internship supervisors—several of whom are Temple grads who are pleased to continue their association with their alma mater through this innovative program—find that Temple Communications interns bring a solid education and work ethic into their internship experience.
Students are able to receive up to four credit hours of classwork to count toward their graduation through the Internship Program. The internship manual will explain a great number of policies, standards and expectations for the Internship Program.
Please feel free to contact the director, Scott Gratson, at 215-204-6434 or sgratson@temple.edu for more information. We are very excited about the possibilities within the Internship Program. We are certain that you’ll agree.
Sincerely,
The Faculty, Staff and Students of
