Biographical Information

I teach or have taught courses in my home Department of Journalism (History of Journalism, Magazine Editing and Design, Intro to Magazines, Gender and American Mass Media, Critical Perspectives on Journalism) as well as the SCT doctoral program in Mass Media and Communication (Media and Social Memory, Critical Analysis of Mass Media, and Qualitative Research Methods), and I’ ve served as the Faculty Director for SCT’s programs in London and Dublin. My research focuses on journalism history, media and public memory, gender and media, and magazines. I have authored or co-authored four books and many journal articles on these subjects, and they are listed below. For 11 years, I was a magazine editor and writer in New York City. I held staff positions at McCall’s and Good Housekeeping, where I was a senior acquisitions editor. I also wrote for both of these magazines and did freelance writing for Reader’s Digest, Health, American Health, Venture, and New Jersey Monthly.
