Department Chair, Advertising

The Department of Advertising in the School of Media and Communication at Temple University seeks a senior faculty member at the rank of associate or full professor to serve as department chair beginning fall 2015.

This tenured faculty member will play a key role in guiding a dynamic department of more than 500 undergraduate students that is responding to the challenges and opportunities of advertising in the digital age. This position is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned advertising scholar or executive to bring vision and leadership to a growing department (www.temple.edu/advertising) and to the School of Media and Communication. Temple University is located in Philadelphia, which is the fifth-largest media market in the nation, at the heart of an urban laboratory for media and communication.

The ideal candidate for this position should be a productive scholar or professional and ideally could to teach in one or more of the department’s four tracks of study (art direction, copywriting, account management/media planning, and research). The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree. Preference will be given to applicants whose background, dedication, vision, and leadership skills are well suited to guiding the Department of Advertising in its mission to train students, to serve the community, to collaborate with industry professionals, and to develop innovative research. Significant academic or professional experience, including experience in administration and management, is preferred.

Advertising is one of four departments in the School of Media and Communication, which is among the largest and most comprehensive schools of communication in the nation. It enrolls nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and has nearly 60 full-time faculty members. The school houses four departments: Advertising, Journalism, Media Studies and Production, and Strategic Communication.
