Advertising Department at Temple University seeks Department Chair
The Department of Advertising within the School of Media and Communication in Philadelphia is seeking a senior faculty member at the rank of associate or full professor to serve as department chair starting fall semester, 2013.
This position is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned advertising scholar or executive to join an expanding school (www.temple.edu/smc) and department (www.temple.edu/advertising). The chair will lead and build the advertising department, which is responding vigorously to the challenges and opportunities of advertising in the digital age (www.temple.edu/advertising). The department has 9 fulltime faculty members.
The candidate will serve as department chair, should be a productive scholar or professional, and ideally would be able to teach in one or more of the department’s four tracks of study (art direction, copywriting, account management/media planning, research). The candidate will hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree. Significant academic or professional experience, including experience in administration and management, is preferred.
With 500+ undergraduate advertising majors, it is one of the largest advertising departments in the northeast United States. The undergraduate requirements make it one of the most rigorous advertising programs in the region.
Temple University is located in Philadelphia, which is the 5th largest media market in the nation. It has over 34,000 students on regional and international campus, and it is considered a major research institution.
