Development Media/Communication and Social Change

The Department of Media Studies and Production (MSP) at Temple University invites applications for a tenure-track professor in development media/communication and social change to begin in fall 2014. The rank for this position is assistant professor; however, applicants qualified for other ranks may be considered. Review of applications will begin February 24, 2014, and will continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will have research interests related to traditional and/or emerging media in a global realm. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research is informed by a record of fieldwork in development settings; a Ph.D. is required. Faculty have the opportunity to teach undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses.

This position provides an opportunity to play a role in a department with over 800 undergraduate majors. The department offers an M.A. in Media Studies and Production, and tenured and tenure-track faculty also participate in the school-wide Ph.D. program in Media and Communication. The School of Media and Communication is initiating a new M.S. in Globalization and Development Communication to which the successful candidate will contribute.

Temple University’s School of Media and Communication (SMC) is in Philadelphia, the nation’s fifth-largest media market. SMC is a comprehensive school of communication whose other departments are Advertising, Journalism, and Strategic Communication. Nearly 3,000 undergraduates are enrolled in four departments and school-wide undergraduate major in Communication Studies, and more than 100 graduate students are pursuing Ph.D., M.A., M.J., and M.S. degrees. The University community at large serves nearly 35,000 students in the region and at several international campuses.
