    SOPA/PIPA Blackout Protests Screenshots

    I saw several web sites that I often use that have a protesting message on their home pages (as of 6 pm Jan. 18):

    Of course, Google

    Our WordPress!!

    Wikipedia, this one didn’t even allow me to go to their actual site at all. You can type in your zipcode and wikipedia gives your reps info.

    Etsy, the site allows people to sell hand-made and vintage stuff. I have a vintage clothing store here.

    NearlyFreeSpeech, the company we often buy domains from.

    Craigslist doesn’t like SOPA PIPA either!

    The video WordPress listed is pretty good also. Check it out:

    Interesting! I just came back from China (was on vacation to visit a friend) so this is such a hot topic! Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo, Amazon.co.jp were all blocked but my friend told me you can buy this software that you have to pay about $40 or 50 for 6 months to see these sites. I forget which country (could be Turkey) also blocks certain sites but the government sells the software to allow seeing blocked sites. Interesting!!

    Earthquake in Japan: Blogging

    Naoko has been posting updates about the recent earthquake in Japan in her a new blog we created called After the Earthquake in Japan. Her friend, Sayuri, who is an alumna of Temple Japan, has also contributed posts.

    Naoko left for Tokyo today. She plans on helping bring aid to survivors in Northern Japan. One charity she wants to get involved with is Onigiri Flying to Ibaraki, which is a group making a traditional Japanese comfort food, “onigiri” or rice balls, and sending them to people, especially foreigners, who are trapped in affected areas. View their site to learn more. Naoko, Sam, and I all pitched in to build their website so check it out!

    Naoko will be updating After the Earthquake in Japan about her first-hand experiences there, so remember to return to the blog and read her new posts.

    Photo Gallery Plugin

    I’m working on a new plugin called Galleria Galleria that is a fork of Photo Galleria that is designed to minimize resources and selectively load javascript. I love how the Photo Galleria plugin was integrated into the WordPress gallery system but I could not stand seeing so many resources load on every page when only one page might contain a gallery. Galleria Galleria will only load javascript on pages that actually have a gallery. Beyond that, we will see what other improvements I can make to this plugin. I’m open for suggestions and I’d love to have people help test it out with their themes.
    You can download and fork my new plugin on github at https://github.com/samargulies/galleria-galleria.

      Sam,

      Thank you very much, your Galleria-Galleria plug-in is fantastic.
      I use it with galleria’s twelve theme and it works like a charm.
      Now, I only have one question for you.
      I think ideally I’d want to integrate Galleria-Galleria with NextGEN Gallery plugin instead of WP gallery implementation.
      NextGEN is much more flexible and capable.

      Please give me an idea of what I need to do to integrate you plugin with NextGEN.
      I’d appreciate any help you can provide.

      Thank you in advance.

      Luis

      Thanks for your feedback Luis. I don’t have any of Galleria’s paid themes so its good to hear they work with my plugin.
      I don’t have any knowledge of NextGEN galleries, so I can’t be of any help in that regard, but you can always use my plugin as a start.

      Hello Sam, your Galleria Galleria plugin is awesome! Excellent choice to integrate it with the WP built in gallery, so easy to use for less experienced WP users. I have one question though: how can i align the images to the left of the gallery in sted of center?

    6. Sam Margulies on said:

      @Mattiz: You can style galleries by changing your style.css file, such as:

      .galleria-gallery {
      float: left;
      margin-right: 10px;
      }

      Nice plugin! I noticed that the slideshow stops playing once I click on an image though? Is it possible to have it continue playing after jumping to a certain image in the reel? Thanks!

      Sam, I would like to hire you to get my Galleria Galleria plugin working with the folio theme from Aino. Integration was easy for the most part, but the theme stalls out in Firefox. It’s working perfectly well in Chrome and Firefox. Anyway, I need this remedied and I’d love to pay you to do the work.
