Prof. Donnalyn Pompper Publishes Book

Congratulations to Professor Donnalyn Pompper on the publication of her new book, Practical and Theoretical Implications of Successfully Doing Difference in Organizations (Emerald). The first volume in a series on International Perspectives on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, the book provides a critical interrogation of power and meanings of “difference” which suggests avenues for building theory and offers reasons why real commitment to diversity is needed, an endeavor that requires conscious and sustained effort. Prof. Fabienne Darling-Wolf Quoted in Variety Article

Professor Fabienne Darling-Wolf is quoted in the Variety article ‘America’s Got Talent’ Has A Secret: Oddballs Welcome:

“I think perhaps what distinguished AGT from some of the other reality shows is the extent to which it democratizes the experience of appearing on TV and potentially winning,” said Fabienne Darling-Wolf, an associate professor at Philadelphia’s Temple University. “Because the show does not focus on a specific talent, like ‘American Idol’ or ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ or require you to do something painful most viewers would not want to do, like ‘Big Brother’ or ‘Survivor,’ and their many spin-offs, anyone can find something to relate to.”

M&C Student Maria Cipollone Publishes Article and Joins Zynga

Congratulations to M&C student Maria Cipollone, who has accepted a position at Zynga and will move to San Francisco, California on April 2.

In other news, Maria’s article titled “Minecraft as a Creative Tool: A Case Study,” with Catherine C. Schifter (College of Education) and Rick A. Moffat (Computer Services) will be published in the July 2014 issue of the International Journal of Game-Based Learning.

Prof. Fabienne Darling-Wolf Publishes Collection of International Media Chapters

Congratulations to Professor Fabienne Darling-Wolf, editor of the 2014 book The International Encyclopedia of Media Studies: Research Methods in Media Studies, Volume 7 published by Wiley. Fabienne also wrote one of the chapters in the book (“Convergence, Globalization, Technological Development, and Interdisciplinarity in a Fast-Evolving World: The Formidable Question of Method”), as did Professor Matthew Lombard (“Lessons Learned from a Research Saga: An Ambitious Content Analysis of Television Form”) and M&C alums Suman Mishra (“Doing Survey Research in Media Studies”), Richard Popp (“Cultural History and Media Studies”) and Sue Robinson (“The Interview: A Process of Qualitative Inquiry”).
