The School of Media and Communication’s top scholars gathered Sept. 25 for the first Aspiring Scholars reception.

They were joined by Temple University Provost Hai-Lung Dai and SMC Dean David Boardman.

“You have chosen an excellent school in which to do your studies,” Dai said. “I was totally blown away by the influence this school has had in the world of media and communication in Philadelphia.”

The undergraduate students were recipients of university-wide merit scholarships, SMC merit scholarships for incoming students, SMC students in the major of distinction, and members of the Lambda Pi Eta and Kappa Tau Alpha societies. As part of the event, each student brought with them their favorite book, journal or publication to spark conversations.

Scott Gratson, director of the Communication Studies Program and SMC Undergraduate Studies, reminded the students of the importance of their academic achievements.

“As scholars, you bring a voice to this table. This voice is going to reverberate well beyond this hall, this school, this university,” Gratson said.
