Larry Hott and Diane Garey of Florentine Films/Hott Productions will offer two presentations on Feb. 28.

“How to Get Rich Quick Making Documentary Films” runs from 10:30 to noon in Annenberg Hall, Room 201.
Larry Hott and Diane Garey of Florentine Films/Hott Productions have produced 23 films for PBS broadcast and numerous short films for educational and online distribution. In their careers they have raised millions of dollars for research, development, production, and distribution. Learn how they’ve garnered production funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, private foundations, state humanities councils, and corporations. They will show clips from their award-winning films and talk about how each one was funded and produced.

“Every Cut is a Lie” runs from 2 to 3:45 p.m. in Annenberg Hall, Room 3.
Jean-Luc Godard famously said, “Cinema is truth 24 times a second.” Wolf Koenig, a Canadian filmmaker, famously didn’t agree. “Every cut is a lie,” he wrote. Larry Hott and Diane Garey, partners in filmmaking and in life, have been creating truthful lies in the form of history documentaries for over thirty-five years. In this workshop they will talk about the challenge of presenting historical images, from ancient maps to hoary old photographs to Hollywood-style reenactments, in their documentaries. You may never trust what you see in a history film again.
