MAADE Inc. took home the Beyond 2013 title at the Advertising Department’s semi-annual innovation competition Dec. 4 for creating an app to help Temple University students stay in shape.
UFIT will enable them to find healthy food options, and help form a unique fitness plan. UFIT members will have access to specific food locations in the Temple area and free fitness class schedules. MAADE Inc. was comprised of advertising students Avery Blue, Ella Perry, Michelle Dunn, Devon Lafferty and Adam Feinstein.
A panel of judges prepared questions and comments for each team that presented to help determine the winner. They included Brian Kirk, JOUR ’09, co-founder of Technically Media; Brendan Lowry, StOC ’11, marketing manager at Curalate; Siobhan Latta, a senior manager at Aramark; and Michelle Taglialatela, the founder of Tag Strategies.
Advertising Professor James Marra, who founded the competition, said, “I like that students showcase their talents in real world situations.”

Each semester, Marra teaches an advertising class that media is in constant motion and evolving in order to capture the public’s attention 24/7. By tasking students to compete in Beyond 2013, he is challenging them to think into the future.
Seven groups of students went head-to-head in proposing their innovations in the preliminary rounds judged by their peers. The top three groups then moved onto the final round. ADvantage and Divine Innovation were the other contestants in the final round.
