How to Apply

All programs are open to both undergraduate and graduate students at Temple University and other institutions. Applications will be reviewed once all materials have been submitted. Applicants will be notified by email of the decision regarding admission.

Before applying, all students must complete the Study Away Intake form and attend an Intro to Study Away Information Session, held daily in Room 6 in Annenberg Hall.

London Semester

Program Dates and Application Deadlines

Apply early. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis and recently programs have been filling before posted deadlines leading to a wait list. However, late applications will be considered if full enrollment has not been reached by the deadline.

Spring 2015

Program dates: Arrival on January 7 – Departure on April 26, 2015 *tentative

Requirements (FALL & SPRING):

  • Complete the Study Away Intake form and attend an Intro to Study Away Information Session before applying
  • Two academic references from college professors or teaching assistants (TA’s).
  • An essay approximately 1-2 pages (500 words) long describing how this program would contribute to your personal and academic development.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
  • You are currently enrolled as a full-time, matriculated student and will have completed at least two years of college-level study.  In some instances, a student can participate in the semester program during his or her sophomore year.
  • You will undertake a full-time program of study at Temple University London and will be applying credits earned towards a degree.
  • You are in good academic and disciplinary standing; students on academic or disciplinary probation or warning may not participate.
  • Non-Temple students must submit an official transcript to SMC Study Away.
  • Program Deposit – A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within two weeks of your acceptance to the program and in some situations, it is due sooner.  The deposit will hold your place on the program and will then will be applied toward your tuition and program fee.

South Africa

Requirements:

  • Complete the Study Away Intake form and attend an Intro to Study Away Information Session before applying
  • An academic reference from one college instructor or teaching assistant (TA).
  • A current résumé.
  • An essay approximately 1-2 pages (500 words) long describing how this program would contribute to your personal and academic development.
  • Students will need to select one of the following tracks:
    • Research students must have taken an introductory research methods class or equivalent.
      • Research may focus on any topic but it must be relate to the media.
    • Production students must have taken an introductory audio and/or video production class, photography class, journalism writing intensive class, etc. or equivalent.
      • Students in the production track can choose to focus on audio, video, text and/or photography or a combination.
  • Within the application students will be asked to provide evidence of their proficiency in their selected track so you are encouraged to apply early.  See below for further details if you do not meet the minimum requirements of the program or are in the process of completing required courses.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
  • You are currently enrolled as a full-time, matriculated student.
  • You will undertake a full-time program of study and will be applying credits earned towards a degree.
  • You are in good academic and disciplinary standing; students on academic or disciplinary probation or warning may not participate.
  • Non-Temple students must submit an official transcript to SMC Study Away.

    • Barcelona – Knowledge of the language is not required, however, the more Spanish a student speaks the more internship opportunities that are available;
    • Hong Kong – No level of Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) proficiency is required to participate and an abundant number of internships in all areas are available in English only.  Those students that do have proficiency in either language, however, will have an exceptional number of internship opportunities available to them.
  • Program Deposit – A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is due within two weeks of your acceptance to the program and in some situations, it is due sooner.  The deposit will hold your place on the program and will then will be applied toward your tuition and program fee.
