Regardless of program location, all students will spend two weeks on Temple’s Main Campus studying Intercultural Communications in the Workplace as a group before they depart for their chosen destinations. The programs include all of your necessary on-site amenities, including housing, meals, program events, and transportation. As part of each program, you will work one-on-one with an industry expert, who will help you refine your interviewing skills, perfect your resume, and ultimately help you secure an internship in your desired field, as he/she will give you access to thousands of internships at exclusive companies. Each of the programs is a unique combination that includes travel, learning, exciting events, with a resume building internship and the pre-departure course will ensure that you’re fully prepared for the workplace and cultural differences you’re sure to encounter in your host city. Students will receive transcripts from Temple University and earn 6 credits for this experience.

The Temple SMC Barcelona Internship program is an all-inclusive program and provides students with the opportunity to live, learn, and work in one of the most culturally diverse cities on the Mediterranean Sea. Spend some time indulging your other interests, as well. Barcelona is a culturally diverse city that speaks both Catalan and Spanish. Located within the city’s edges are beautiful parks, historic stadiums, famous architecture, beaches around the Mediterranean Sea, and live music and theatres echoing throughout the city’s walls. As one of the world’s fashion plates, Barcelona is also popular for shopping and Las Ramblas is a famous series of 5 interconnected streets that boast being one of the finest pedestrian boulevards in the world filled with cafes, shops, street performers and so much more.
Barcelona also provides a fascinating variation on Spanish culture. The city loves eating, drinking, and partying as you might find in Madrid, but does everything with more of an international influence. Barcelona shows a slightly different side of Spain than you might find elsewhere due to its geography and the influences throughout its history. The resistance of the Catalans over time has left the city with a free-spirited exuberance that both charms and welcomes. The strong cultural and linguistic roots of Catalonia are deeply embedded in the city’s past and give Barcelona much of its unique flavor.
A number of Barcelona internships are available in almost all industries, most notably communications, public relations, event planning, journalism, publishing and many more. Experience Spain this summer and apply for the Temple SMC Barcelona Internship Program.
Overall the more Spanish a student speaks the more opportunities and options they will have available to them during the internship placement process. However, fluency is not necessary to participate in the program. Students with lower Spanish proficiency may be paired, at the internship site, with a student who has stronger Spanish skills on specific internship projects.
The Temple SMC Hong Kong internship provides a great opportunity to intern in a developing world economy known for its innovation. In Hong Kong, the modern stands side-by-side with the traditional. It’s a city that boasts many seemingly contradictory titles. One of these, the East-meets-West cultural aspect, is enduringly interesting. Both fast-paced and personal,
Hong Kong offers a distinctive blend of Chinese tradition and a wealth of influences from international waters. It is a city of multiple islands with an amazing skyline and exceptional architecture. Navigation is easy within the city, as it has a modern public transportation system and signs are in both English and Chinese.
As most businesses in Hong Kong conduct their daily work in English, Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) proficiency is not required to participate. Those students who do have either Cantonese or Mandarin proficiency will have a greater number of internship options available.
Because of Hong Kong’s developing economy, it is a very competitive market for internships in many industries such as advertising, communications, public relations, marketing, art galleries and many more. As a student in Hong Kong, you’ll expand your life experience and your knowledge base widely, in many fresh and exciting ways. Apply today!
The Temple SMC Costa Rica Internship program offers internships with regional and local organizations in a number of prime industries, such as advertising, theater, digital media, journalism, non-profit, marketing, real estate, hospitality/tourism, and ecotourism and many others as requested (be sure to ask!).
Surrounded by tropical forests and high mountains, San José lays in the middle of a country well known for its beauty and popularity with the eco-tourism crowd. Museums, theaters, and cinemas abound throughout the city and San José boasts an astounding selection of world-class restaurants offering every delicacy imaginable. The city’s vibrant nightlife hums through numerous packed bars, nightclubs, and live music venues. Whether you’re looking to go clubbing or to learn salsa, merengue, or the cha-cha-cha, San José offers great dancing.
Most businesses conduct their daily work in Spanish, so students should have an intermediate level of Spanish proficiency. However, native fluency is not necessary to have a successful internship in Costa Rica. Students with lower Spanish proficiency have been paired, at the internship site, with a participant who has stronger Spanish skills on specific internship projects.
Experience historic Costa Rica through a series of program events such as visiting tourist attractions, red carpet events, professional sports games, and even overnight trips. The official language is Spanish, so a general knowledge is important to compete for these coveted internships. It is a great place for students to immerse themselves in the culture and language and to learn to work and live in the most progressive country in Latin America. Apply today!
