Application deadline
Application materials (GRE scores, official transcripts, TOEFL (if required), letters of reference, statement of purpose) are due by Feb. 15 for fall admission.

Semester 1 (Fall)
Suggested: 7 credits

  • Take three core courses: Introduction to Communication Concepts, Communication Research Methods and MA Colloquium
  • Meet with your academic advisor.
  • Submit your petition for a transfer credit form if it’s appropriate.

Semester 2
(Suggested: 9 or more credits)

  • Take the remaining required course, Media Institutions or Communication Content and Behavior, and two or three other courses.

Semester 3
(Suggested: 9 or more credits)

  • Take three or more courses.
  • Meet with your academic advisor to discuss your thesis, project or comprehensive exams.

Semester 4
(Suggested: 9 credits)

  • Take two courses, including a master’s thesis or project if you’ve opted for one. 
  • Submit your application to graduate. Typically, the deadline is early in semester; contact the Graduate Office for details.
  • Prepare for and take comprehensive exams if you are not doing a thesis or project.

Graduation
*NOTE: 36 credits are required in order to graduate. You must take either a thesis or project or take comprehensive exams (without a thesis or a project).
